A 250-year old structure that has stood on the still waters of the exotic Lake Pichola for centuries - the Lake Palace or the Jal Mahal was once the summer resort of the royal family of Mewar.

In the olden days this palace was known as the Jag Niwas Mahal after the builder of this magnificent mansion. Pillared halls, impressive architectural friezes and exotic paintings adorn this water palace. The builder Maharana Jagjit Singh was a great friend of Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan and he exhorted his workers to imitate the exquisite buildings of Agra in Uttar Pradesh, India.
